Irecruitment Interview Question 1
What are the advantages to the HR or the recruiting group of using iRecruitment?
Oracle iRecruitment is a full-cycle recruitment solution. It automates every phase of the recruitment process. iRecruitment integrates with Oracle HRMS to manage the entire workforce lifecycle. Information that the two applications share simplifies your day-to-day administrative tasks. For example, after you hire an applicant, your administrative staff need not spend time filling our forms about the new hire. The employee’s assignment details are already available.
Can I configure iRecruitment site according to my enterprise’s requirements?
Oracle iRecruitment is a highly extensible and configurable application that enables you to design a recruitment site that addresses your enterprise’s needs. You can configure data, content, labels, links, and logos to address the specific goals of your job site.
What type of user does iRecruitment support?
iRecruitment supports the following types of users:
Site visitor:
A user who accesses the external web site but does not create an account.
Registered user:
A user who registers on your web site and provides a minimum amount of personal information. When an external visitor registers in iRecruitment, iRecruitment creates an Oracle HRMS user with the e-mail address as the username.
Employee:
A user who can apply to internal job postings, perform employee referral, and interview tasks.
Manager or recruiter:
A user who can access the entire functionality. Using iRecruitment, managers or recruiters can:
- Post and manage vacancies
- Process candidates and applicants
- Manage recruitment communication
- Create and manager offers
- Create and manage interviews
You must assign the iRecruitment Manager and iRecruitment Recruiter responsibilities to your managers or recruiters to enable them to access iRecruitment using their standard self-service login.
Agency user:
An external person who belongs to a recruiting agency and accesses iRecruitment to conduct recruiting activities such as creating candidates and applying on behalf of candidates. You assign the iRecruitment Agency responsibility to agency users to enable them to access iRecruitment.
Is a HR Professional User Interface delivered with iRecruitment?
You need Oracle HRMS to hold work structure information that is used in iRecruitment. An HR responsibility - iRecruitment HRMS Manager, is supplied to customers who do not have the complete Oracle HRMS application. Using this responsibility they can access all the HR functionality they require to run iRecruitment.
Can I migrate legacy data into iRecruitment?
Yes. You can migrate data such as candidate information and vacancy details to the iRecruitment system. You can also import other data such as qualifications and competencies. To load your legacy data to the Oracle database, use Application Programming Interfaces (APIs).
What are the security features of Oracle iRecruitment?
You can define user profiles, security profiles, responsibilities, and menu structures to control who uses iRecruitment. You can create security profiles to control manager access to vacancy information. Managers can set up vacancy security to define who has access to vacancy details.
Do we define users for iRecruitment candidates?
When an external site visitor registers in iRecruitment, an Oracle HRMS user is automatically created using the visitor's e-mail address as the username. The iRecruitment External Candidate responsibility is assigned to the user.
Can I use personalization options in iRecruitment?
Yes. Since iRecruitment uses the standard OA Framework, you can use all of the personalization options. To enable administration-level personalizations you need to set the profile options that are available for personalization as required:
- Personalize Self–Service Defn
- Disable Self–Service Personal
Can I modify flexfields that are available on the iRecruitment web pages?
You can use Personlization Framework, a component of the Oracle Applications (OA) Framework technology to customize pages and flexfields. You can restrict the display of the whole flexfield, or certain segments of a flexfield.
Can I configure the existing notifications in iRecruitment?
A number of predefined notifications are supplied with iRecruitment. For example, candidates can receive notifications about matching jobs and new vacancies. Managers can receive notifications about the status of the vacancy that they have created. They get a vacancy approval notification if the vacancy is approved. You can use the Application Developer responsibility and the Messages window to edit the contents of the notification messages.
How to set up the pages for user and agency in iRecruitment?
- Create a contact in Enter and Maintain screen
- Create Agency Responsibility
- Create end user
- Assign Agency responsibility and Contact to the user
Can I use iRecruitment to meet country-specific recruitment requirements?
Yes. iRecruitment supports localization level personalization. You can use this feature to meet legislative or country-specific recruitment requirements. For example, you can hide the gender field in the Enter Applicant Details page at the localization level to conform to the legal requirements of a specific country.
Does iRecruitment support the approval process for vacancies and job offers?
Yes. You can set up an approval process to route vacancies and offers to appropriate managers for approval.
Can I create common job description for vacancies?
Yes. The Default Postings feature enables you to enter a set of values to use as a default whenever a particular business group, organization, job, or position is selected for a vacancy. For example, if you create a lot of similar job postings for administration jobs, then you could set up a default job posting to use whenever you select Administrator as the job for a vacancy.
How do I ensure that the offer letters follow our enterprise branding and HR policy standards?
You can use offer letter templates or standard descriptions to create offer letters for your business group, organization, jobs, or positions.
How does iRecruitment help my enterprise work with agencies to manage the recruitment process?
Enterprises can use agencies functionality to manage a range of recruitment activities. Agencies can register their candidates with iRecruitment and apply for jobs on their behalf. Enterprises can process agency candidates to fill job openings or hand over the complete placement process to an agency.
Is the candidate data secure when the enterprise works with multiple agencies using iRecruitment?
Yes. Agencies can view data only of their candidates and cannot access details of candidates who are self-registered or from other agencies. For example, agencies can view details of the candidates that they themselves registered or candidates associated with their agencies by managers.
Can I validate the email addresses candidates supply when they register?
You can set up a business event to send an e-mail to candidates when they register, instructing them to reply to the e-mail to confirm that their e-mail address is correct. This enables you to confirm if the candidates have supplied valid e-mail addresses. You can then use Application Programmatic Interfaces (APIs) to delete records of candidates who do not respond within a certain time period.
Does iRecruitment support multi-lingual and multi- currency requirements?
Yes, iRecruitment supports multi-lingual and multi -currency requirements. You can configure the application to address specific local and cultural requirements.
What is High Availability?
When you shut down the iRecruitment instance to carry out maintenance tasks, your job site is not available for candidates to search and apply for jobs. You can use the iRecruitment High Availability functionality to set up an alternate or high availability instance to make the basic candidate job site available. This functionality enables you to switch between the two instances to continuously support the candidate job site.

- pay_elements_links_F,
What is the difference between both SECURED VIEWS and NON SECURED VIEWS?
- Secured views display information only for the current period
- Unsecured views is used to get the information from the entire rows
Define APIs and use in Oracle HRMS?
API’s are used in HR to insert the data into the Base tables. As it’s very secured system, the user does not have the facility to copy the data directly into the Base tables. When we write the inbound interfaces / use WebAdI, the systems will use the APIs to store the data into system. The API are published by oracle with number of parameters. The different types of parameters are IN / INOUT / OUT of these parameters few are mandatory, without which the process won’t complete. Generally
when we use API we give data FOR : Object Version Number, Effective Date, P_Validate
HR_EMOYEE_api
Example: hr_employee_api.create_employee
hr_organization_api
Example: hr_organization_api.create_organization
hr_assignment_api
What are processing types of element?
Elements are nothing but the components of the salary.
For Example: Basic Salary, House Allowance, Transport Earning, Bonus, Loan Recovery etc.
There are 2 types of Processing
1. Recurring: if an entry of this element applies in every period until the entry is ended
2. Non Recurring: if an entry applies in one pay period only.
What are termination roles of an element?
Termination Rules of an Element:
a).Actual Termination: For a nonrecurring element, select Actual Termination if you want the entries to close down at the end of the pay period in which the employee leaves.
b).Final Close: if you want the entries to stay open beyond the employee's leaving date so that you can continue to pay the employee.
c).The Last Standard Process date defaults to the last day of the pay period in which the employee is terminated, but you can set it to a later period when you terminate an employee.
What is costing?
Costing:
Recording the costs of an assignment for accounting or reporting purposes, Using Oracle Payroll, you can calculate and transfer costing information to your general ledger and into systems for project management or labor distribution.
Can you call PL/SQL Package functions from within a Fast Formula?
Yes you can
How do we do this?
There is a Define Function screen in HR. In this screen you will register the PL/SQL as “External Function”.
Can we want to pass a parameter PAYROLL_ID to this external PL/SQL Function, how do we do it?
The “Define Function” screen has a button named “Context Usage”. This button opens up a window in which you can register the parameters.
How do you debug a Fast Formula?
You can create a message variable in Fast Formula.
This message variable must also be registered as a Formula Result ( In “Formula Result Rule” window).
What are the various levels where you can Set up Payroll Costing Accounts? Which levels take the highest precedence?
Element Entry => Highest
Assignment => Second Highest
Organization => Third Highest
Element Link => Fourth Highest
Payroll => Fifth Highest
Technically speaking, how do you know from tables that an Employee has been terminated?
(a) The Person_Type_ID in PER_PERSON_TYPE_USAGES_F will correspond to System Person Type EX_EMP
(b) A record gets created in table PER_PERIODS_OF_SERVICE with Actual_Termination_date being not null
How can you make Employee Number generation Automated based on business rule etc?
Use Fast Formula.
What is the difference between per_people_f and per_all_people_f?
PER_PEOPLE_F is a secured view on top of PER_ALL_PEOPLE_F. The secure view uses an API hr_security.show_person. This API internally checks for an entry in table PER_PERSON_LIST for the logged in person’s security profile. A concurrent program named “Security List Maintainence program” will insert records in PER_PERSON_LIST.
If you do personalization at both FUNCTION level and Responsibility level, which personalization has higher precedence?
Responsibility level. Responsibility level will override FUNCTION level personalization’s.
Say you have done a lot of Personalization’s to Self Service Screens. But all these Personalization’s were done in DEVELOPMENT environment. How will you migrate these personalization’s to PRODUCTION environment?
Before 11.5.7…Use AKLOAD
This is a java program given by Oracle. This is the only way you can script it.
In DEV you will do AKLOAD DOWNLOAD ( & other parameters)
In PRD you will do AKLOAD UPLOAD ( & other parameters)
On or after 11.5.10 Use responsibility “Functional Administrator”, then click
on Personalization Tab, and then click on Import/Export.
Next select the documents to be exported.
Go to the UNIX box and tar the personalization’s into a .tar file.
On the Production environment unzip this tar file in location as entered in profile “FND: Personalization Document Root Path”.
Setting up of this profile is mandatory or else Oracle Framework wouldn’t know where to search for the files to be imported.
How many types of payrolls are there?
Payroll Period Types Periods per Year
Year 1
Semi-Year 2
Quarter 4
Bi-Month 6
Calendar Month 12
Lunar Month 13
Semi-Month 24

Value Sets Interview Questions
What is a valueset?
Value Set as the name specifies refers to a set of values. These vales can be used to validate the values entered in a felx-field segment, concurrent program parameters and report parameters.
Why do we need value sets?
You do not always want a user to enter junk free text into all the fields. Hence, Oracle Apps uses value set to validate that correct data is being entered in the fields in screen.
Is value set attached to all the fields that require validations?
A big NO
Then where lies the usage of value sets?
Broadly speaking, value sets are attached to segments in Flexfields. You can argue that value sets are also attached to parameters of concurrent program(but in reality oracle treats parameters as Descriptive Flexfields)
When to define Values for Value Sets
What are the main details entered in the valueset?
What are different list types?
What are different security types?
How many Format Types the value set have?
How many Character Formatting Options have for value set?
Numbers Only (0–9)
What are different validation types?
Or
Different types of Value sets?
Validation Type: Refers to the type of validation applied when values are entered for the fields associated with the value set.
- After you register your Flexfields & report parameters, if you are using independent or dependent value sets, you can enter values into each corresponding value set using the Segment Values form.
- Values for the Value Sets, we are defining will be kept in the Oracle Application Object Library tables.
What are the main details entered in the valueset?
- Name
- List Type
- Security Type
- Format Type
- Maximum size
- Precision
- Validation type
What are different list types?
- Pop-List : When the number of items is between 1-10
- List of Values : When the number of items is between 10-100
- Long List of Values : When the number of items is more then 200
What are different security types?
- No Securtiy: No security is enabled for the value set
- Hierarchical Security: Security rule applied to the parent is automatically applied to the child values
- Non-Hierarchical Security: Security rule applied to the parent is not applied to the child values
How many Format Types the value set have?
- Character
- Number
- Time
- Standard Date, Standard Date Time
- Date, Date Time
How many Character Formatting Options have for value set?
Numbers Only (0–9)
- We cannot prevent users from entering a value that contains the radix character.
- Cannot be used in Translatable Independent and Translatable Dependent value sets.
- Here also we cannot use in Translatable Independent and Translatable Dependent value sets.
- If you have selected Numbers Only (0–9) flag, then it wont allow you to affect this flag.
- We are recommended to use this in Accounting Flex fields.
- Your Minimum/maximum value may not be longer than the maximum size you specify for this value set.
- Once you specify a range of values, you cannot define a new valid value that falls outside this range.
- The Minimum Value and Maximum Value fields can therefore allow you to create a value set with a validation type of None.
What are different validation types?
Or
Different types of Value sets?
Validation Type: Refers to the type of validation applied when values are entered for the fields associated with the value set.
- None : The values entered is not validated against any pre-defined set of values , the values is only validated against the format type specified.
- Independent : The value entered is validated against a pre-defined set of values
- Dependent : The value is validated against a set of values which depend on an independent value set .
- Special: values set uses a flex field itself.
- Pair : two flex fields together specify a range of valid values.
- Translatable independent : input must exist on previously defined list
- of values; translated values can be used.
- Translatable dependent : input is checked against a subset of values
- based on a prior values; translated value can be used.

Payroll Interview Questions 2
What are Reversal and Retry?
Reversal can be used to correct run results for one assignment after post-run actions have already occurred. Retry is for correcting mistakes after a payroll process finishes.
Which elements you link openly in Payroll?
Worker’s Compensation and Vertex (Vertex is a third party software to calculate US Canadian taxes) using Quantum files. (It is part of Vertex software which will be updated as and when the tax and legal rules are changed by the US/Canadian Government. So we keep getting the Vertex patches to bring Quantum files with the up to date tax rules and conditions)
What is Consolidation Set, Element Set & Assignment Set?
Consolidation Set: A grouping of payroll runs within the same time period for which one can schedule reporting, costing, and post-run processing.
Element Set: Grouping of all individual elements into one set.
Suppose you want to define a special type of payment and make this available only to employees who work at a particular location. In Oracle HRMS you use a compensation element to represent the payment. You define the business rule as a link between the element and the specific location. Then when you assign employees to the location, they automatically become eligible for the payment.
Assignment Set: Grouping of assignments for retro pay is generally referred to as Assignment Set.
What are Fast Formulas?
Fast formulas are pseudo codes used in the payroll for validating the entry values, assignment sets and element sets.
Post Payroll Process
Three concurrent processes will run in the Post-Payroll process, viz.
1. Pre-payment Process
2. Costing Process &
3. Transfer to GL Process
What do you mean by Garnishments?
Third Party payments is also known as Wage Attachments, Wage Garnishments and Court orders in different localizations. 3rd party payments are deductions from earnings incurred by Court debts or fines. For example, payment of maintenance, child support or other legally incurred obligations.
What is BACS, NACHA?
BACS: Banks Automated Clearing System. This is the UK system for making direct deposit payments to employees.
NACHA: National Automated Clearing House Association. This is the US system for making direct deposit payments to employees.
Does Oracle Payroll enable you to run part payrolls?
Yes, Oracle Payroll enables you to run part payrolls. This is useful in each of the following circumstances where you do not want to process a payroll for the entire organization.
Calculating Pay for an Individual Employee
If an employee leaves the company before the end of a payroll period, you will need to calculate the individual pay entitlement. You may also want to calculate individual pay to check the details for an employee before starting a payroll run for all employees.
Can you verify that a payroll run has completed successfully?
On completion of a payroll run you will need to verify that the run completed successfully. You can display run messages and view latest balances and assignment level results. You may also need to have relevant information grouped by topic in report format so that you can review the outcome of processing.
Can you make adjustments after a payroll run has completed?
Oracle Payroll enables you to make each of the following types of adjustment when a payroll run has completed.
- Addition of late entries that were not included in the initial run
- Corrections to details that were wrongly entered in the initial run
- Retrospective distribution of current payments to the period in which they were earned
When you have made these corrections and modifications you can then run the payroll again. However, you do not need to rerun the entire payroll. Oracle Payroll will only reprocess those items that were incorrect in the initial run.
Can you produce payment and costing information from a completed payroll run?
Oracle Payroll enables you to use the results of a payroll run to allocate payments to your employees, and to provide costing information.
Ensuring that Employees are paid by the Correct Payment Method
When a payroll run has completed you need to pay each employee according to the payment methods that you have specified. You may also need to override the predefined payment methods where employees are receiving special payments such as bonuses, which may not be paid by the usual methods of payment.
Ensuring that Costing Information can be provided
On completion of a payroll run you may need to distribute the associated costs across particular cost centres. Oracle supports this using the Cost Analysis module.
Can you run payroll processes and reports multi-lingually?
Payroll processes and reports are always submitted and always run in the local language only. This means that US and UK payroll reports can only be run in English.
Can you verify that payments have been made?
Yes. Oracle Payroll is fully integrated with Oracle Cash Management. This enables you to use Oracle Cash Management to verify that payments have been cashed. Reconciliation can be applied to payroll checks (cheques) and third party checks. You can identify which checks have been cleared and the date on which they were cleared. You can also view a reconciliation report which shows if voided checks appear to have been cashed.
